Stacy Lewis, CPM, LM - Career Bio

Stacy Lewis is an advocate for personal responsibility, education and freedom in birth. Stacy loves people and loves her job as a midwife. Everyone that hears her tell birth stories understands her appreciation for natural birth.

The mother of nine children, Stacy understands pregnancy and birth from the inside out. Eight of Stacy’s nine children were born at home and one of her personal deliveries was a breech home birth.

Stacy began college as a pre-med major. After acquiring a science degree from Amarillo Junior College she transferred to University of Texas in Arlington to finish her undergraduate degree. Stacy was accepted at Parker Chiropractic College in 1989 but delayed her pursuit of her doctorate degree to have her third baby at home. During her time at home with her children, her life's direction changed and she began her formal training to be a midwife in 1991.

As a midwifery student, Stacy's training to become a midwife took place in the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles. These regions are very rural settings and medical help or hospitals were usually a long distance from the farms at which the babies were born. As a result of the unavailability of medical assistance, she learned from an experienced midwife to confidently trust birth. These experiences helped her to understand that "Women are made to give birth and babies are made to be born." and "If a system isn't broken, don't try to fix it."

During the course of her career, Stacy has attended over 600 out-of-hospital child births including breeches, twins and triplets. Currently Stacy works to unite the worldwide community of midwives by helping less experienced midwives learn to deliver breeches and twin by mentoring them during deliveries. When she is not supporting women in birth, she enjoys being an active member of her community through volunteer work with the area schools and the Red Cross. Stacy is active in her church community and enjoys reading, sewing, camping and spending time with her children and grandchildren, “The Treasures.”
